Summer Financial Aid
Financial Aid Request forms available April 13, 2020
Summer financial aid is based on the summer term enrollment (6 credit hours is fulltime and 3 credit hours is halftime for all students).
- Have a 2019-2020 FAFSA on file with UNM Financial Aid. If you've already done a FAFSA for the current school year but have not sent the FAFSA to UNM, make changes to your FAFSA and add our school code 002663. This will enable us to see your FAFSA for the current year (which includes the summer semester).
- Submit the Summer Financial Aid Request form online once we have your FAFSA and you have registered for your summer courses. This form will be available late April on the UNM Financial Aid forms page, choose the applicable aid year and select Summer Financial Aid Request form (e.g. Summer 2020 is a part of the 2019-2020 year).
Summer Loans and Work-study
To be considered for work-study and/or student loans for the summer term you must complete and return the Summer Financial Aid Request Form once you have registered for the summer semester. This form will be available late April on the UNM Financial Aid forms page. You must be registered for summer classes before you submit the form.
The amount of loans you are eligible for depends on whether you used your annual loan eligibility during the fall and spring semesters and your summer Cost of Attendance.
Check whether you have borrowed your Annual Loan limits on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
Summer Pell Grant
IF you are eligible for a Pell Grant for the summer term a Pell Grant will be awarded automatically by the Financial Aid Office only if you have a complete financial aid file including a FAFSA. You do not need to submit a Summer Financial Aid Request form to be awarded a Pell Grant for summer. Pell Grant eligible students can receive up to 150% of their scheduled Pell award each year. This means if you were a Pell eligible student in fall 2019 and/or spring 2020, you may qualify for a Pell Grant for summer 2020!
You must be registered for the summer term before submitting the Summer Request form to our office.
